Dear Connelly Community,
As we move into our eighth week of remaining at home, we are beginning to see some light at the end of what has seemed a long, dark tunnel. As the Governor relaxes some “stay at home” orders, we are better able to plan for upcoming events. I know that many of you will be disappointed in some of the decisions I have had to make regarding some events, but please know that the decisions were made with the health and safety of our entire community in mind. Disappointing our students is never easy, and I can assure you I take no joy in doing so. If there is an event that has been changed and you would like to understand my reasoning behind the change, I would be happy to meet with you via Zoom or by telephone.
Below, please find a list of upcoming events and the designation of whether they are virtual or live.
- GAA Awards Ceremony: No Change. Live on Friday, 22 May 2020 at 5:00 PM, Sullivan-Henry Field. Social Distancing will be enforced. Only students and the members of the family they live with are invited to attend. Please RSVP using SignUp Genius.
- Visual Arts Showcase: No Change. Live on Friday 29 May 2020 beginning at 5:30 PM. This event is still in the planning stages and details will follow. Social Distancing will be enforced. Students and the family they live with will be assigned times for viewing art. If you would like to attend, please complete our Visual Arts Showcase Interest Survey.
- NHS/Awards Ceremony: No Change. This event remains virtual – All are Invited! Thursday, 28 May 2020, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM (adjusted schedule), mandatory for all students to attend online. Zoom link information will follow.
- Yearbook Pick-up: When the yearbooks arrive, we will notify all families and yearbooks may be picked up by Appointment Only – No Signing will take place on campus. We ask students to consider emailing those whose yearbook they wish to sign, and perhaps notes and signatures can be cut out and pasted into the yearbook – Think of the story you’ll have to tell your grandchildren when they ask…”Grandma, what is a yearbook and why is yours all pasted-up with individual notes!?”
- Graduation Practices: Live at Sullivan-Henry Field beginning at 10:00 AM on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of June. Masks will be required for all, and Social Distancing will be enforced – No Prayer Breakfast.
- Graduation: No Change. Live on Saturday, 06 June 2020 at 4:00 PM at Sullivan-Henry Field. Masks will not be required, but are strongly encouraged. Social Distancing will be strictly enforced. Graduates and the family they live with will only be allowed; check-in will take place before entrance. A gourmet boxed dinner immediately following graduation will be provided with individual family tables set up for dining. *Reinbold Michael B Photography will be taking formal graduation photos and is offering several photo packages. Please click here for the flyer.
In the age of COVID-19, many things are changing. If Social Distancing continues to be relaxed, and those changes allow for additional student body and extended families of graduates to be on-site, I will immediately let you know. As always, you remain in my prayers and I pray you all remain safe and well.
In Peace,

Dear Connelly Community,
I hope and pray that you all enjoyed a well-deserved Easter Recess, and that you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe. It has only been a little over a week, but I find myself missing our “Zoom talks,” and can only hope that you miss them too! Not to worry, grade level Zoom Meetings begin again this week with Thursday, 23 April 2020 at 6:00 PM for juniors, next Tuesday, 28 April 2020 at 6:00 PM for sophomores, Thursday, 30 April 2020 at 6:00 PM for freshmen, and finally, Tuesday, 05 May (Cinco de Mayo!) at 6:00 PM for seniors; please look for an eblast with Zoom link information.
As you are aware, California’s COVID-19 response is changing daily, but we are projected to further “flatten the curve,” and save lives, if we continue to shelter in place and follow social distancing guidelines. I am made aware, daily, of the many schools in our state and county that are closing for the remainder of the academic year. I am still waiting until the end of the month for additional information from state and local authorities on what, if any, social restrictions could be lifted, before deciding on our future learning plan and graduation.
For now, know that remote learning continues following the schedule previously established. Also, in the coming days, a sign-up genius will be posted on Edmodo that will allow your daughter(s) to sign-up for a time to come onto campus, collect their personal belongings, and clean out their locker(s). Please know that masks or other nose/mouth covering will be required while on campus and social distancing guidelines must be followed.
As some of you may have heard, I recently accepted a position with Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, California as their new Principal effective 01 July 2020. I want you all to know that I very much appreciate the love and support you have so freely given. I continue to ask the entire Connelly community to keep, in prayer, the several faculty and staff still looking for employment.
As always, you remain in my prayers and I miss you all very much.
In peace,
Jacqueline Quiñones Sienkowski J.D.

Dear Connelly Families,
As we enter Holy Week, I pray that you and your family remain healthy and safe. I wanted to send out a brief reminder of the schedule for this week and next week.
- Monday through Wednesday, 06 April 2020 through 08 April 2020: Classes run on a normal Zoom schedule
- Holy Thursday and Good Friday, 09 and 10 April 2020: No Classes – Easter Break Begins!
- Monday through Friday, 13 April 2020 through 17 April 2020: Easter Break, No Classes
- Monday, 20 April 2020: Classes Resume online via Zoom
While we had hoped that we would be back on Campus Monday, 20 April 2020, given the continued “safer at home” order, we will continue to remote learning through, at least, Thursday, 30 April 2020. Please know that as new information emerges about if, and when, we can return to on-campus learning, I will immediately inform you.
Please also be aware that Zoom, in an attempt for greater internet security, has implemented a mandatory password for all meetings, in this case, our classes. Our students have been using each teacher’s Personal Meeting ID. They will continue to do so, but then the students will be prompted to give a password. The password was given in an email to parents. Please be sure to advise your daughter of this change as this policy has already taken effect.
As always, please contact me at any time should you need assistance with any matter. I wish you a blessed Holy Week and a beautiful Easter Sunday!
In Peace,

We are currently in our second week of remote learning, and I cannot tell you how very proud I am of our students, faculty, staff, and YOU, the parents and guardians of our students! This transition has not been easy on our community especially given our unique circumstances, but like everything else, we have risen to the occasion and have reminded the world of who are!
As our remote learning continues to be the mode of teaching and learning for the near future, it is imperative that we monitor it for necessary tweaks that will add to the experience while bringing balance to the process. Recently, it has come to my attention that many of our students are feeling overwhelmed by the amount of screen time and off-line work being assigned. Add to that their level of stress around the reality that everything…literally everything is changing for them, and we have a group of brilliant and beautiful young women who simply need a mental health break. Our teachers, who maintain academic excellence through rigor and online “live” coursework, are some of the few teachers in our area that are maintaining that live approach to teaching and learning every day; I do not wish to move away from live interaction as I feel that it is important to remain socially connected through virtual classes but, I also want to ensure our communities overall health and well-being.
Beginning tomorrow, we will move to a four-day learning week with every Friday used as a mental health/family time break. We are on a rotating schedule that will not change so, classes that were to meet tomorrow (Friday, 27 March) will meet on Monday with the rotation continuing from there. As an added bonus, we will continue to host our Faith Fridays, which are an important aspect of our staying socially connected to one another, while engaging in prayer and discussion. Faith Friday will meet every Friday at 11:00 AM and our entire community is invited – please look for Edmodo posts with more information. The value of remaining connected through our Wednesday Rosary and Faith Friday, cannot be understated, and I hope that by giving our community this Friday break, you will find the time to fully participate in community prayer.
I thank you for your continued support and keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

March 23, 2020
Dear Connelly Community,
As we enter our second week of a “Safer at Home” mandate, I hope that this email finds you all safe, and at home. I have no doubt that many, if not all of you, have questions regarding the forward motion of Connelly, and how the current world circumstances affect your daughter(s). While I am at the mercy of information provided by our Governor, health care agencies, and the Department of Education-like you, I want to provide an opportunity for grade level family meetings to occur, via Zoom, in the hope of answering your questions and, perhaps, quelling some concerns. Mrs. Caroline Tran-Ryan, will join me in these meetings as we come together as a community, check-in with one another, and keep you informed on issues such as: AP Testing, SAT and ACT Testing, and Senior Exit Interviews. Zoom meetings will take place this week and next beginning at 6:00 PM and continue until all questions have been answered. Please watch for the schedule of meetings to come out within the next day or two via Eblast and Telephone Connect. Very soon, you will receive a Zoom Invite from me or my assistant, Maria Teresa Avila, with additional pertinent information.
Also, you should know that we are planning some fun Zoom Events that continue to celebrate who Connelly is as a faith-filled and joyous community-More information to follow!
In the meantime, please remain safe. You are all in my prayers. I ask that you continue to keep our whole community, our faculty/staff, and their families, in yours.
In Peace,

March 19, 2020
Dear Connelly Community,
It seems forever since I have had an opportunity to “speak” with you. During this time of challenge, you remain in my daily Rosary. I wanted to reach out today to provide you with a few updates.
Remote Learning:
We are in Day 2 of remote learning and things are going well. While teachers have had to make a couple of minor adjustments, the overall online learning experience is going well. I had the opportunity to “meet” with our entire faculty and staff (via Zoom) yesterday afternoon and, though exhausted, we all remain dedicated to the academic and spiritual growth of your daughter(s). I want to reiterate that Zoom classes are still school and that students should not be lying down, eating or be in pajamas during class. We all have a responsibility to show-up for one another, to encourage one another to be our best selves, and to expect from one another 110%. Thank you for encouraging your daughter(s) to take seriously the remote learning plan.
School in the Future:
While many have heard that schools in Orange County will not reopen before the summer, the Orange County Department of Education has urged us to not make that determination yet, and to not propagate that uncertainty. Things are changing every day and if we all take seriously our part to help stop the spread of this disease, we could, very well, be back in school before the end of the summer. That being said, I will always keep you updated on decisions that impact our community and our students learning.
Main Office:
Given the directive by the Orange County Department of Health, the Main Office will be closed until Tuesday, 31 March 2020. We are all working remotely and available to you via phone or email. All staff will check phone messages and return phone calls within 24-hours.
Please know that we are all here for you. Please reach out if you need assistance or support. Stay safe, follow recommended guidelines, and I hope to see you all soon (see you for real…not on Zoom!)
In Peace,
Jacqueline Quiñones Sienkowski, J.D.

March 17, 2020
Dear Connelly Community,
I hope this email finds you all well and that your families remain healthy. I know that during these unprecedented times, there is much uncertainty. Please take a few minutes to read this entire email so that you are as up to date with our forward plans as possible. Through the guidance and support of one another, your faculty is fully prepared to go “live” with remote learning on Wednesday, 18 March 2020. Please refer to my previous e-blast for the remote learning schedule.
A. Main Office Hours:
The Main Office will remain open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The Business Office will continue to process tuition and other payments, by phone only, on Tuesdays and Fridays, also between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
B. Facilities and Campus Security
Our Security Team will continue to provide security to our campus. Our Facilities Director, Francisco Giles and his associate, Jose Guzman, will be on campus daily.
C. Deep Cleaning:
Floors, carpets, bleach sprayed on all concrete, interior surfaces, door handles and doors will be deep cleaned beginning 06 April 2020 (two-weeks prior to our students return).
D. Attendance:
Please know that attendance will be taken during every Zoom block. Teachers may, at their discretion, take attendance during, and at the end of the block to make sure all students remained for the entire Zoom session. Attendance will be recorded into Plus Portals at the end of every day.
E. Policies and Procedures:
All Policies and Procedures found in the student and parent handbooks will remain in effect.
F. Norms:
Please follow these Norms for remote learning:
- Links to Zoom classes will be posted to Edmodo. Please check Edmodo regularly and email teachers if you do not see the link to their class posted.
- All student will enter the Zoom space and immediately “Mute” their screen, and will make sure that their “Video” is turned on.
- Because students are on “Mute,” they must raise their hand to be acknowledged by their instructor and remember to “Unmute” themselves when speaking.
- Students should all look like they are ready to learn (no pajama tops, hair combed, etc.). Students can always throw on a Connelly Polo if they are uncertain as to what is “Zoom appropriate.”
- There is no eating in front of the camera. Students, as well as the faculty, may sip water or coffee throughout the Zoom session, but there will be no eating or the putting on of make-up during class.
- Students should not need to use the restroom during their Zoom class…sometimes this can’t be helped though so, at the instructors discretion, if a student leaves the session for a brief period of time, they should turn off their Video so their instructor knows they are gone, and turn the Video back on when they return.
- All Zoom classes will be recorded.
G. Counselling:
Counselling will be available through Mrs. Caroline Tran Ryan and our new counsellor, Daniel Verdugo, who is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, 24 March 2020. Mrs. Tran Ryan will be providing a SignUpGenius via Edmodo for any student, or adult member of our community, to sign up and have someone to talk with (30-minute sessions). Please, if you are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, and think that you could use a confidential ear, sign up to speak with our incredibly compassionate counsellors. Students may be pulled out of class for counselling services and will be required to notify their teachers if that is the case.
H. Tutor and Conference Hours:
Ashley Pearson will continue to tutor our girls via Zoom. Mrs. Caroline Tran Ryan will be providing a SignUpGenius to our girls, via Edmodo, for them to schedule time with her. Teachers will maintain their Office and will inform their students when their twice weekly, 45-minute Zoom conference hours will be. Conference hours will only be available through Zoom.
I. Cancelled/Rescheduled Events
While we are expected to return to campus on Monday, 20 April 2020, information is ever-changing so, this date may not be depended upon. Please be aware that all events calendared through April will be cancelled or rescheduled. Events include:
- Global Solidarity Week (all events): 06 April through 09 April Cancelled
- GAA Banquet 22 April 2020 Rescheduled to 30 April 2020

Please remember that for the safety of all during this time, no parent or student will be allowed on campus. I have no doubt that you will be receiving more information from me in the coming days. Please know that I am always available for you via telephone or email. Stay safe and may Mother Connelly continue to pray for us.

TAKING PRECAUTIONS
NON-ESSENTIAL SCHOOL EVENTS – CANCELLED
OVERVIEW
Cornelia Connelly School of the Holy Child remains safe, and there are zero presumptive or confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) related to our community.
Late on Wednesday, March 11, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) https://www.cdph.ca.gov/ released updated guidance relative to gatherings and the coronavirus (COVID-19). They have determined that non-essential gatherings should be postponed or cancelled across the state until the end of March. This guidance does not apply to activities such as attendance at regular school classes, work, or essential services.
WHAT THIS MEANS
Cornelia Connelly School will observe an adjusted schedule beginning tomorrow, Friday, 13 March 2020 through Thursday, 20 March 2020 for student class play rehearsal and teacher online lesson planning and preparation. All students should bring their laptop or iPad to every class for online school practice beginning Monday, 16 March 2020.
Friday, 20 March day class plays are still scheduled – EVENING PERFORMANCE IS CANCELLED FOR NOW – REVISITED FOR A LATER DATE.
- All large non-essential student and staff gatherings are cancelled, as well as off-campus visits by students and staff to public places where crowds may gather. This includes field trips, extended field trips, and all use of facility activities.
- All athletic events will only include athletes, coaches, and officials until further notice. We believe that this may change as further guidance comes out from CIF Statewide and Southern Section.
As a result of the updated guidance on gatherings, Cornelia Connelly School of the Holy Child has altered, postponed or cancelled the following events for all but students, through the end of Spring Break, 20 April 2020:
- Class Plays, Friday 20 March – Cancelled (May be held at a later date)
- Community Mass and Reconciliation Service, Thursday, 26 March – Altered, Students Only
- Global Solidarity Week, Monday, 06 April through Thursday, 09 April – Altered, Students Only
- All School Service Day, Tuesday, 07 April – Cancelled
Non-essential events will be altered, postponed or cancelled effective by end of the school day today, Thursday, 12 March 2020.
UPDATES MOVING FORWARD
I will continue sending detailed information to families, faculty, and staff through Eblast, phone messages, and on our Website. Visit: https://connellyschoolanaheim.org/
PREVENTION
As a final reminder, we encourage all students, families, and staff to take everyday preventive actions including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Individuals should stay home when they are sick.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. You all remain in my prayers.

Coronavirus Precautions
Good Morning Connelly Community,
I want to keep you all updated on how we are handling the Coronavirus (COVID-19) concern. Please let me start by saying that we continue to pray for our close and extended community, past and present. We pray that we will all experience good health and remain safe.
While we are nowhere near the possibility of a whole school closure, as with all things, preparedness is essential for success. Recently I devised a protocol for teachers that will allow the business of school to continue should, for any reason, we are asked to suspend on-campus learning for an extended period of time. I hope and pray that the protocol is unnecessary, but rest assured that should we need an immediate action plan for student learning, counseling, and academic support to continue off campus, we are ready.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has continued to keep school administrators up to date on the most recent information available; the Orange County Superintendent of Schools is in communication as well. As of today, the CDC is suggesting that non-essential social gatherings be postponed or canceled. While there is no evidence of “community spread” in Orange County, the CDC recommends limiting the potential for disease spread by limiting social gatherings. Currently, class plays scheduled for next week, Friday 20 March 2020 are still on schedule to occur however, I have decided to suspend food service (there will be no food trucks available). In addition, I am asking that any guest who is elderly or has an underlying health issue, seriously consider whether they want to be present in such a large crowd with people from various Southern California communities. Also, if you are not feeling well, whether it be a cold, fever, sore throat or general malaise, I ask you to consider staying home to rest and get better, and to avoid, potentially, getting others sick. I promise you that all class plays will be recorded and available for viewing from the comfort of your home. Should the recommendations for social gatherings change in the coming days or weeks, and such change necessitate the cancellation of Friday evening class plays, I will immediately inform the community via e-blast, recorded message, and on our website.
Please know that every event we have planned moving forward that celebrates the life of Connelly are extremely important to us, and we very much want to be able to move forward with them all. However, as information and suggested protocols change daily, I hope you will understand that events may have to be canceled and could be canceled day of. Please keep our country, and the world, in prayer as we navigate this time in our history.
In Peace,
Jacqueline Quiñones Sienkowski, J.D.

Coronavirus Precautions
Good Morning Connelly Community,
While I do not want to cause alarm, I feel it is important to address growing concerns over coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as it is certainly monopolizing much of the news these days. Yesterday, while listening to NPR, the subject of school preparedness in the event of closure due to illness came up. While we are not at immediate risk for COVID-19, the disease is becoming more widespread in California and, just yesterday, a patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 who had, apparently, no contact with a person who tested positive for the virus. Given new knowledge and wanting to be proactive rather than reactive, I am working on a plan that I will provide to our faculty and staff in the coming days that will address the following concerns:
1. Prevention Practices
2. Learning Continuity Plan
3. Business of School
In the meantime, and since there is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COIVID-19), please read and follow the information below to best avoid being exposed to this virus. As a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a face mask.
• CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
• Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of face masks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. In an effort to help keep our environment safe, I will be providing each faculty and staff member with Clorox wipes to be used in the classrooms and works space. In addition, if students are visibly ill or coughing excessively, they will be provided a mask so as not to infect anyone with anything, including the common cold. Parents or guardians will be contacted to discuss further care. Please share with me any concerns you might have and, together, we can work through them.
In peace,
Jacqueline Quiñones Sienkowski, J.D.

Coronavirus Precautions
Dear Connelly Families,
The health and safety of your daughters and our faculty and staff are always our highest priorities. For this reason, we are monitoring the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website for the most up-to-date information about the Coronavirus. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we will follow the latest CDC updates for guidance on the most effective and sensible prevention measures.
As of this afternoon, the CDC has issued a Level 3 Warning, advising against all non-essential travel to, and from, China. The virus may have been more widespread in China than has been reported, possibly putting our families who are expected to travel at greater risk than was first assumed. The virus has a reported 14-day incubation period.
Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking students who are expected to return to Connelly from China in the coming days to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days from the date of their arrival, and to see a doctor to ensure that they are asymptomatic before returning to campus. Cambridge, the company who manages two of our international students, is urging our students to stay in China until the CDC reduces the warning level from the current Level 3 Warning to a Level 2 Warning. In addition, Cambridge will not allow our students to return to their host family home until they have self-quarantined. Given this provision, it is expected that our students from China may not be on campus for some time. We are working to provide these students ways for some class access via Facetime or Zoom.
If you would like to discuss this further or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work together for the health and safety of our whole community. I look forward to staying in touch on this matter.
In Peace,
Jacqueline Quiñones Sienkowski, J.D.
